GRP grating is engineered to resist corrosion from chemicals, saltwater, and environmental exposure. Unlike traditional steel or aluminium, it won’t rust, rot, or deteriorate over time. Our GRP grating is available in several resin systems designed to meet stringent fire safety standards. Two of our most popular resin types achieve a Class 1 flame spread rating of 25 or less under ASTM E-84 testing. For environments where enhanced fire protection is critical, we can also supply a phenolic resin system achieving a flame spread rating of 10 or below. This ensures compliance and peace of mind in safety-sensitive applications.

Because GRP grating is non-metallic, it is completely non-magnetic. This makes it ideal for facilities with sensitive electronic or magnetic equipment — such as laboratories, power stations, and data centres — where metal grating could interfere with operations or measurements.

GRP grating is designed to absorb impact without sustaining permanent deformation. Its fibreglass structure allows for flexibility under load, meaning it can deflect slightly and return to shape without bending or cracking. This impact resistance extends the product’s lifespan and reduces costly maintenance compared to steel grating, which can warp or dent when struck.

Weighing up to 75% less than steel, GRP grating is lightweight and easy to handle. Most panels can be lifted by two people without machinery, reducing manual handling risks and installation time. Despite being lightweight, GRP grating maintains impressive strength-to-weight performance — typically weighing just 12kg per m² for 25mm panels and 18kg per m² for 38mm panels.

GRP grating can be used effectively to create raised flooring systems for industrial and commercial spaces. Adjustable pedestals can elevate panels up to 600mm high, allowing access for cabling, drainage, or airflow beneath. Plastic insert mouldings can also be used to lift panels slightly above the floor surface, promoting liquid drainage and maintaining safe, dry working areas.

For best performance and structural support, GRP grating panels should rest on a minimum 38mm bearing surface along their edges. Proper support ensures stability under load and extends the lifespan of the installation by evenly distributing weight and stress across the structure.

Designing with GRP grating differs from traditional metals. Instead of focusing solely on ultimate load capacity, GRP design considers allowable deflection — the amount the grating flexes under load — to ensure optimal performance and comfort.
